He was elected as a Member of Parliament on October 21st, 2019. Just 93 days later, he says he is running to be leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.
In a press release Wednesday (January 22) morning, Hastings Lennox & Addington MP Derek Sloan announced his intention on running for the leadership.
Sloan says the reason he is running is because of the problems currently facing Canada.
He adds that social issues also need to be discussed.
Sloan spoke to some specifics he wants to see as a focus.
The 35 year old Belleville resident (Thurlow Ward) is a graduate of Queen’s University and has been involved with the party since his school years. He and his wife Jennifer have three children Fiona (6), Callum (4), and Nora (3).
Sloan made an appearance on 800 CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Wednesday morning and was asked about his stance on abortion, or whether he would march in a pride parade if he was elected as a leader.

Each contestant for the leadership will need to come up will 3,000 signatures (of federal Conservative members) and $300,000. CLICK HERE for the rules. Candidates have until February 27th to enter the race.
