A reminder to drivers that just because there is a road closure or blockage, doesn’t mean you can drive the wrong way on Highway 401.
Lennox and Addington OPP say 12 drivers were charged after doing just that, following a Sunday morning crash in the westbound lanes near Shannonville road.
A transport truck driver hit the brakes to avoid a car that had pulled out in front of him, causing the trailer to slide across the road and block both lanes.
Police say the highway was only closed for about half an hour, but a dozen drivers decided to go east in the westbound lanes to try and get around the blockage.
Authorities add that trying to get around a crash site that way can actually lead to more delays and increase the risk for other drivers and emergency personnel around the scene.
