Local MPP Todd Smith announced infrastructure funding for local municipalities this week.
On Friday afternoon, Smith announced up to $8.6 million for Hastings County, Prince Edward County, Belleville, and Quinte West. It is part of the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.
The money is allocated to municipalities with populations under 100,000, and all rural and northern communities. Municipalities can also accumulate their funding over five year periods to address larger projects.
Total investment in Bay of Quinte municipalities are as follows.
*County of Hastings – $50,000
County of Prince Edward – $1,147,499
*City of Belleville – $3,232,839
City of Quinte West – $4,157,747
Total – $8,588,085
*(NOTE: Belleville is in both the Bay of Quinte riding and H-L&A riding. The amount allocated is for the municipality, and not the portion of the riding in Bay of Quinte or H-L&A. The same applies to the $50,000 for Hastings County. Much of the rest of Hastings County receives funding specific to a municipality. CLICK HERE to see that breakdown from the H-L&A riding)
Todd Smith says the money is used to build and repair roads, bridges, water, and waste water throughout the riding and the province.
Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson tells Quinte News having predictable and stable funding is key to The County, as they look to repair roads, bridges, water, and waste water infrastructure.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says they are appreciative of the community investment and he says it will go toward improving transportation networks.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk says the money will allow the municipality to proceed with their 2021 infrastructure planning.
Warden of Hastings County Rick Phillips says the OCIF funding will contribute to many services for the entire area.
