Brighton council has decided how the municipality will help residents who are affected by flooding in the future.
Council will provide sand and bags free of charge to residents and municipal staff will pick up the bags and sand from residents’ properties when the flooding is no longer a threat.
However, council will not authorize its staff to fill and deliver sandbags to residents and help them build sandbag walls as they’ve done in the past.
Council believes the previous flooding response was too costly and exhausted its public works and fire department personnel while keeping them away from other priority projects in the community.
