Quinte West council believes in Conservation Authorities but doesn’t want local taxpayers paying more for their services and programs.
The province is expected to announce results of its review of their mandates and funding very soon.
Monday night Quinte West council passed a Terry Cassidy motion asking that the province improve its financial support for Conservation Authorities and not lessen their core mandate.
There are fears the provincial government might download costs to municipalities.
Last year the province decreased its funding to authorities by close to 50 percent while not decreasing their responsibilities.
Meanwhile, a handful of people involved in farming criticized Lower Trent Conservation at the council meeting saying it sometimes unnecessarily interfered in their operations, wasting time and money.
