Water is better than sand, at least when it comes to controlling flooding.
At its meeting Monday, Quinte West council voted to set aside $50,000 to buy what’s known as a TriWater Bag system.
The big sturdy plastic bags are meant to be filled with water and placed to build walls against high water in basically the same manner as sandbags are.
The TriWater Bags are reusable and much easier and quicker to deploy than sandbags.
The initial purchase will see the bags used in Fraser Park, along the Front Street parking lot, and near the arenas in Trenton.
Meanwhile, Quinte West staff are in the process of creating an updated flooding information plan for residents to be ready before the spring flooding season.
