People driving through Quinte West on the 401 are going to notice an increased police presence this month.
According to Quinte West OPP, data shows January has a higher collision rate than any other month and officers over the past three years have responded to 52 collisions, an increase of 125% over the monthly average.
Officers will be focusing traffic patrols in an effort to have motorists reduce their speeds and drive according to weather conditions.
The increased police presence will be noticed between Wooler Road and Wallbridge Loyalist Road on Sundays through Tuesdays from 8 a.m. until noon and again from 4-8 p.m.
Officers will be enforcing all aspects of the Highway Traffic Act including but not limited to distractived driving, speeding, seatbelts as well as other offences.
According to police, 25% of all collisions during this time occur during poor weather conditions.
Officers will have an increased number of motorists stopped along the side of the road for investigative purposes; please remember it’s the law to move over if safe to do so when approaching an emergency vehicle on the side of the highway with emergency lights activated.
