Firefighters from the Quinte area head out to the Dominican Republic this weekend, not for a holiday but with a more generous purpose in mind.
It’s for a training session, not for the local fire fighters but for those on the island.
This is the Firefighters Without Borders, Bombero Project.
Spokesman Dan Boisvenue, an Ottawa area firefighter himself, tells Quinte News members of the group will be at two different fire stations in very rural areas of the island, at San Fransisco Vincentillo and Padre Las Casas.
He says the work will be aimed at showing the local people some very basic training.
Boisvenue says the local group will be packing in as much instruction as they can in the few days they have.
Some donated equipment is being shipped down, and the Canadian local group members will leave, at the two fire stations, all the equipment they will be wearing.
You can hear the full interview regarding Firefighters Without Borders – Bomberos Project on Newsmaker Sunday, with host Mary Thomas, this Sunday at the noon hour on 800 CJBQ.
