Two local fastball players are in New Zealand playing for the “222 Fastball” Under 15 team.
Nate Hoover of Stirling, a grade 9 student at St. Theresa Secondary School and Ethan Tombs of Campbellford, a grade 9 student at Campbellford District were selected by 222’s Fastpitch to play in a 22-game series in Auckland and Wellington over 14 days through January 14. It will culminate with the New Zealand National Championships in Wellington January 9 to the 12.
Hoover and Tombs were members of the Springbrook Royals Fastpitch team that won Gold at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Quebec City last summer. Ethan Tombs also won Gold with the Napanee Under 14s in the National Championships in Saskatoon where he was named top pitcher.
(Hoover and Tombs lead Canada’s 222 Team to two wins vs Hamilton New Zealand U15 and U18. Each player was selected by the host team as “player of the game”. For the 2 games today. Hoover: 5 for 6 at the plate, 5 RBI, 3 runs Tombs: 4 for 4 ( 2 dbl, triple and single) plus a sacrifice fly, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.)
Canada is 7-0 so far in New Zealand and both Hoover and Tombs have been named Players of the Game.
Hoover and Tombs are scheduled to return to Canada on January 14.
