Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were active across Peterborough County initiating RIDE programs in an effort to remove impaired drivers from our roadways.
Since the Festive RIDE launch on November 23, 2019, the Peterborough OPP have conducted 175 spot checks, issued 6 warn range licence suspensions and charged 16 people with Criminal Code Driving Offences related to alcohol and/or drug consumption.
The Peterborough OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol and use a designated driver, utilize a cab or public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
The OPP are committed to highway safety and will continue to take enforcement action against impaired drivers. RIDE programs will continue to be utilized as a tool for officers all year.
