The Trenton Golden Hawks spoiled the Cobourg Cougars early Rogers Hometown Hockey celebrations with a 5-4 win Saturday night at the Cobourg Community Centre.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Cougars stormed back to make things interesting.
A late insurance marker from Dalton Bancroft stood up as the winner for Trenton as they picked up a much needed win to stay out in front of the surging Wellington Dukes.
Bancroft also scored earlier in the contest for the Hawks while Andrew Suriyuth, Jared Gerger and Matt Nastasiuk each found the back of the net once.
Colin Van Den Hurk registered two assists while Anand Oberoi made 23 saves on 27 shots for the win making his second start in as many days.
The Hawks close out their busy weekend Sunday night at the Hangar against the Pickering Panthers at 7:30 p.m.
