The Trenton Golden Hawks began the new year last night (Friday) at the Hangar in Trenton.
In front of a packed crowd, the Hawks fell 3-2 in overtime to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.
Griffen Fox scored late in the second period to tie the game at one. In the third period, the Hawks allowed a late power-play goal before storming back seconds later on an Adam Kim goal to tie the game back up at two.
In the first overtime period, the Canadiens scored to silence the home crowd and skate away with the victory.
Anand Oberoi was in goal making 22 saves on 25 shots.
The Hawks return to action tonight (Saturday) in Cobourg at 7 o’clock. They will be back home on Sunday taking on the Pickering Panthers at 7:30 p.m.
In the County, the Wellington Dukes started 2020 on the right foot with a 5-2 victory on home ice over the Whitby Fury.
Evan Miller returned from injury picking up two goals in the contest. Frank Vitucci added a goal and two assists, while Ben Evans and Dylan Massie also scored for the Dukes.
In between the pipes Matt Dunsmoor turned aside 30 of 32 shots for the win.
Wellington is back on home ice tonight (Saturday) hosting the Lindsay Muskies at 7:30 p.m.
The Dukes are just one point back of the Golden Hawks for top spot in the OJHL’s East Division with one game in hand.
On the Junior “C” circuit Friday night the Gananoque Islanders defeated the Campbellford Rebels 7-2.
