Belleville Police Service responded to 70 calls for service from January 2, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to January 3, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.
Arrest on warrants
On January 2, 2020 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Belleville Police stopped a vehicle on Herchimer Ave. as a result of a notification by the Automated Licence Plate Reader that the police vehicle was equipped with. The reader notified officers that the registered owner was wanted out of Niagara Region. The registered owner was found to be driving and Niagara Regional Police was contacted. Officers from the Niagara Regional Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit attended and returned the 33-year-old Belleville male to Niagara Falls to answer to the charges which included possession of child pornography and child luring.
On January 2, 2020, Belleville Police attended Brampton in order to return a male who was arrested by Peel Regional Police Service on arrest warrants for possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon while prohibited. The 46-year-old Belleville male is being held to appear before a Justice of the Peace at a bail hearing on January 3.
Shoplifter
On January 2, 2020 at 8:30 p.m., police took a report of a shoplifter from a north end retail store that had occurred a short time earlier. Officers observed video from the store and obtained information on a vehicle that the suspect left in. 36-year-old Jody Horvath of Brighton was stopped and arrested a short time later. She was taken to The Belleville Police Service where she was later released on a form 10 with a court date of January 23 to face a single charge of theft under. She was also issued a number of provincial offence notices that included driving without a licence and using unauthorized licence plates.
