A beautiful piece of art was unveiled in front of Quinte West city hall New Year’s Day.
Mayor Jim Harrison, along with councillors, staff and those who created the work, unveiled a City of Quinte West globe just a few feet away from the hall’s front doors.
Renowned metal artist Sean Donnan of Horizon Metal Works took the lead on the creation of the stainless steel globe which depicts all four wards in the city, some recreation activities such as fishing and sailing, and at the very top of globe sits a steel military aircraft representing the military.
Canada’s flag also figures prominently in the design.

Other companies involved in the globe’s creation were Research Castings International and The Machining Centre.
All involved are from Quinte West, something Donnan is particularly proud of. “This is truly a local piece of work done by local people about the city they live in.”
While impressive in the light of the day, the globe will especially stand out at nighttime as it will continuously change colours and the various sections will stand out brightly.
