One local man has been arrested and charged in connection with a child sexual exploitation investigation, according to the OPP.
A joint investigation between the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and the Peterborough Police Service, called Project Peacehaven, has resulted in 36 criminal charges being laid against eight people.
The investigation took place over three days and was designed to use online chatrooms and social media to proactively identify, locate and arrest people looking to sexually exploit children in Peterborough.
William Bell, 55, of Shannonville is charged with two counts of luring a person under 16 and making sexually explicit material available to a child.
Six of the suspects were arrested when they arrived at a location to meet the child for sexual purposes.
Police say one man drove over 290 kilometres to meet a child as part of this investigation, and a repeat offender was arrested who had just completed a ten-year term on the Ontario Sex Offender Registry.
