The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board welcomed a new Director of Education in 2019.
With the retirement of Mandy Savery-Whiteway, the board searched for a replacement, and that was Sean Monteith.
He tells Quinte News as far as challenges go in the HPEDSB, student achievement is at the top of the list. He also says it is a large geographic board.
Monteith, who came from the largest geographic school board in Ontario (Keewatin Patricia School Board) says you focus on equality of outcome.
Monteith says with the transition from Mandy Savery-Whiteway, it has been a time to play a little catch up.
He says a major focus in 2019, and one that will continue into the new year, is that a student in Deseronto, or North Hastings, or The County, has the same opportunities as those attending school in Belleville.
