There were two very serious incidents on Highway 401 west between Wallbridge-Loyalist Road and Glen Miller Road Sunday night.
Fire Chief John Whalen says around 5:30 p.m., a tanker truck and three other vehicles were involved in a crash.
There was a minor fuel leak, and two people were injured.
Shortly after the roadway reopened around 8 p.m., there was another crash.
This happened about one kilometre west of the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road exit.
Chief Whalen:
The driver had very serious injuries and was transported to Kingston General Hospital with life altering injuries.
Whalen says the collision was so hard, that it turned one of the tractor trailers cabs around 180 degrees.
At last check, 401 west between Wallbridge-Loyalist and Glen Miller roads was still closed and vehicles are being rerouted onto Hamilton Road.
Quinte West OPP are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them for their investigation.
