The provincial government is making good on their promise to end hallway health care, and Quinte Health Care was the recipient of some much needed additional funding today (Friday).
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith announced QHC is receiving $1, 215,781 through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) to be split between Belleville General, Trenton Memorial and North Hastings hospitals.
Smith says this funding is very important because from time to time we all rely on hospital services.
He says this funding is over and above the $600,000 the hospitals would normally receive on an annual basis.
Smith said the province has a plan to build a connected and sustainable public health care system centered on the needs of patients.
QHC Vice President and CFO Brad Harrington provided details on where the funds will be allocated.
Harrington says he was very pleased with this announcement and the level of funding that comes with the announcement.
He says the funding is critical to sustain the standard of the facilities going forward.
The funds are part of the provincial government’s commitment of $27 billion over 10 years to modernize the health care system.
Smith says there are four pillars the government is focusing on when it comes to health care; prevention, right care at the right time, better care integration and investing in infrastructure.
He told Quinte News the upgrades might allow QHC to save some money on utilities costs and reinvest directly in front-line care.
Smith did also note the province will be supporting the long-term infrastructure plan that includes the redevelopment of Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
