The employees of Procter and Gamble Belleville have given back to the community in a big way.
In a ceremony at the plant on Tuesday, the employee campaign handed over a cheque for $388,000 to United Way Hastings and Prince Edward, the result of the in-plant 2019 fundraising.
Plant Manager Joseph Folk says, of the 850 employees, about 80% hand in pledge cards for United Way.
Folk tells Quinte News you never know when you will need help.
Folk added, “It’s the kind of culture we like to have here. We encourage our contracters who also donate on their own. I like to rally them once a year so they also know that part of working at Procter and Gamble is giving back to the community. So it’s really all about giving back as we’re fortunate for working for a good company that helps us and helps the community.
United Way 2019 Campaign Chair Don Williams says it’s “overwhelming to see this kind of commitment to the community.”
United Way Executive Director Brandi Hodge points out many campaigns are expected to hand in their donations this week.
Hodge says, “We’ve been working encouraging donations, now we’re waiting for those totals to roll in.”
During 2019 United Way supported 44 agencies for 66 programs.
Hodge says 8 Wing Trenton put the campaign over the $1 million mark with its recent donation of $95,000.
This year’s United Way goal for 2019 is 1.95 million.
