Brighton council is searching for answers to the common and complex problem of how to create more affordable housing.
After lengthy discussions on the issue of affordable housing and the need for more rental units in Brighton council has asked staff to report on available options in the new year.
Mayor of Brighton Brian Ostrander says many communities cancel development charges and building fees for developers so they can afford to build affordable housing but that places the burden of paying the cost of the municipal building and planning departments on the local taxpayer.
Ostrander believes the provincial and federal governments should take full responsibility for affordable housing.
The Municipality of Brighton is the fastest growing community in Northumberland County.
