The Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board was the victim of a cyber attack.
Quinte News received calls this week, and reached out to the board for comment.
In a statement Friday afternoon, the board said it was the victim of a malware incident on November 27. The malware affected board services, including payroll. One caller tells us that all online board use was disabled.
After officials became aware of the issue, they reached out for help. They also notified unions, teachers, office staff, and other affected employees.
Board officials say their systems are not fully functional, and they continue to investigate.
When asked whether or not the cyber attack was ransomware (a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid), the board said they would not be commenting.
Officials say they appreciate the patience and understanding from staff at this time.
