Recruiting from the GTA
Belleville is making plans to “up” its efforts to recruit workers who want to flee the high-priced Greater Toronto area.
At the meeting of the Economic and Destination Development Committee on Wednesday, manager of the city’s Economic Development department Karen Poste told the committee that staff have met about 600 people at the Newcomer Centre of Peel job fair who want to get out of the GTA.
Poste said they are engineers, architects, technicians and others.
An effort has already been made to connect some of them to employers here in Belleville.
Some of them are new to the country.
The plan is to organize a bus trip to eastern Ontario next spring to help prospective employees become familiar with the area.
The next BRE is coming
The committee also heard that the next business questionaire or BRE will be conducted in the new year.
Poste said it will target the technical sector.
She says 48 companies will participate and the survey will include 35 questions.
Farmers’ Market upgrade
Belleville’s farmers’ market is getting a little help on the internet in the near future.
A report to the Economic and Destination Development committee Wednesday indicates there will be a new website for the market.
Also Trenval has provided money to help upgrade the electricity at the market square.
And Pop-Up news
The committee also learned work is continuing on setting up the Pop-Up locations for 2020.
Staff reported both Jane Forrester Park and the waterfront site across from city hall are being considered.
