A Colborne-based construction company and a landowner have been fined, after pleading guilty to environmental charges of developing within and interfering with a wetland, without approval from Lower Trent Conservation.
The guilty pleas were entered in March and sentencing was put off so the company could complete restoration work in the area, as ordered by LTC, with the company still facing a $2,500 fine and the landowner fined $200, for allowing the work to happen.
Under the provincial Conservation Authorities Act, any development work in or near local rivers, streams, or shorelines, must be approved by LTC before it can begin.
Anyone who is thinking of doing any sort of construction or engineering work around area shorelines should get in touch with LTC, or Quinte Conservation depending on where the work is planned for, before the project begins.
