The fight by health care advocates for a dialysis unit at Trenton Memorial Hospital was raised at Queen’s Park on Monday.
The New Democratic MPP for Kingston and the Islands, Ian Arthur, rose in the Ontario legislature to call on the government to establish a unit at TMH.
Arthur said there are 100 elderly people in Trenton who need the treatment.
Currently, they drive long distances to Belleville or Kingston.
A conservative MPP, speaking for the Minister of Health Christine Elliott, answered that the government is developing a four-pillar plan to address hallway health care.
Arthur said if that had occurred he wouldn’t have been standing up asking the question right now.
The government answered that it acknowledges the importance of dialysis and the government is planning a tremendous plan for transformation of hospital care.
