The Belleville Police Service responded to 74 calls for service between December 5, 2019 at 5 a.m. and December 6, 2019 at 5 a.m.
Multiple collisions
On December 5, 2019, police responded to 11 motor vehicle collisions. Six collisions were referred to the Collision Reporting Centre while officers investigated the following five:
At 8:32 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Bridge Street East and Pinnacle Street in relation to a two-car collision. EMS attended and treated one person at the scene. Both vehicles were towed. A 26-year-old male driver was charged with failing to stop at a red light.
At 4:53 p.m., police responded to the intersection of North Front Street and College Street in relation to a three-car collision. A 60-year-old male driver was charged with failing to yield to traffic on a through highway. There were no injuries.
At 5:16 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the Metro parking lot on North Front Street. There were no charges as the accident occurred on private property. There were no reported injuries.
At 5:27 p.m., police responded to the intersection of College Street East and Moira Street East in relation to a two-car collision involving a pedestrian. EMS attended and transported the pedestrian and an occupant of one of the vehicles to Belleville General Hospital. Both parties suffered minor injuries. The investigation revealed that one vehicle turned across the path of the other. The turning vehicle continued on and struck the pedestrian who was starting to cross the intersection on a walk signal. Both cars were heavily damaged and towed from the scene. A 44-year-old woman was charged with failing to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.
At 6:45 p.m., police responded to the intersection of College Street East and Cannifton Road in relation to a two-car collision. There were no injuries. A 20-year-old male was charged with careless driving.
Arrested on warrants
On December 5, 2019 at 4:05 p.m., a 19-year-old male was arrested on warrants. His name cannot be released as the charges are in relation to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He will appear in court on January 16, 2020.
RIDE Program
On December 5, 2019 at 6 p.m., the RIDE Team set up various checkpoints around the city. A total of 412 cars were checked over the course of the evening. One motorist was required to provide a roadside sample of his breath. The 45-year-old Belleville man registered a warning and his driver’s licence was suspended for three days. A total of seven provincial offence notices were issued to other motorists.
Traffic Enforcement
On December 5, 2019 at 8:39 p.m., an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on College Street West. A check revealed that the vehicle had improper licence plates on it, and there wasn’t a valid contract of insurance. A 28-year-old Belleville man will appear in traffic court on January 6, 2020.
