$33,000 from Shoppers Drug Mart and the Quinte Community will make lives better for regional cancer patients.
The “Love You” program by Shoppers Drug Mart works with local charities to help advance women’s health. Locally, Shoppers Drug Mart at Dundas Street and the location at Sidney Street were top fundraisers in the country.
Owner Wynand Bekker donated all the funds from the “Love You” campaign to Oncology at Quinte Health Care – Belleville General. Bekker and members of his team from both stores dropped by the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer clinic to present a cheque for $33,000.
The two stores raised the funds with sales of icons at the cash and various fundraising events throughout the last few months.
“This year’s campaign was very personal for us. We have two staff members and two of our team members’ spouses being treated for cancer. We know the importance of keeping cancer care here at our BGH – our regional cancer care hospital,” says Bekker.
The fundraising doesn’t end there for Bekker and his teams at Shoppers Drug Mart. They are holding a fundraising gala in support of oncology at BGH. The Masquerade Ball is a formal event at The Banque Centre. The Impish Grins will provide the entertainment. Tickets are $125 and can be purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart – Dundas Street or Sidney Street locations.
