The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad, led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has now commenced a homicide investigation at Joyceville Institution near Kingston.
On December 1, 2019 at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers from the Penitentiary Squad responded after the Correctional Service of Canada reported that an inmate had been located with life-threatening injuries and had been transported by ambulance to hospital.
On December 4, 2019 Glen Darrell Vandusen, age 43, died as a result of the injuries.
The investigation by members of the Penitentiary Squad is ongoing, with assistance from the Kingston Police Service and OPP East Region Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Brad Collins of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
