Residents of a Belleville 6-plex apartment building spent some cold times outside in a blizzard early last evening (Sunday).
A clothes dryer in the basement of the College Street West building caught fire just after 7 o’clock.
The building’s fire alarms sounded and residents shivered outside while Belleville firefighters quickly doused the fire.
No one was injured and damage was estimated at around $15,000.
Investigation indicated that a lint build up in the dryer’s exhaust venting had blocked air flow and led to the fire.
Belleville fire officials remind people that the exhaust venting on dryers should be regularly cleaned out.
