The Trenton Lions Club kicked off a campaign in June to raise funds for the new IV Smart Pumps at Trenton Memorial Hospital. The Club has been an avid supporter of Trenton Memorial Hospital since the beginning.
It was the Trenton Lions Club that started the campaign to purchase the land to build a hospital in Trenton. Doug Crews, a current member of the Trenton Lions and life-long area resident noted that when the hospital was built in 1951 it would take an hour to travel from Carrying Place to Belleville General.
Doug said when his mother when expecting her first child she decided that was far too long of travel time. Doug’s father, Colin Crews, who was the president of the Trenton Lions Club at the time, kick-started the campaign for a new hospital. Just as his father did in the late ’40s, Doug kick-started the campaign this year by pledging to donate $50,000 if the club would raise another $50,000. Combined with the pledge from Doug, the Trenton Lions Club was able to raise a combined total of $105,749.35.
The new IV Smart Pumps have technology that will help prevent incorrect dosages. Ninety per cent of all hospitalized patients require the use of an IV pump. These new pumps will help save lives. The Trenton Lions Club has served the Trenton community for over 80 years.
