Plans are moving ahead to redevelop Stanley Park in Belleville’s east end.
The park, at Edgehill and Forest Hill streets, has not had a play structure for many years.
Manager of Transportation and Operations Joe Reid tells Quinte News that the idea is to build something that fits in with the “demographic of the community.”
Reid says, “The criteria is for intermediate and junior structures. They won’t take up whole area. There had been an old playground there before.”
“There is a beautiful grass open space for people to play frisbee, baseball, or play with their dogs. We want people to come out and see what is being proposed,” he added.
City council put $250,000 in the 2019 budget for the park, and a request for proposals was sent out.
Three separate proposals have been received.
They will be displayed at an Open House at Parkdale Community Centre, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on December 12.
The city will have a project team at the Centre to answer the public’s questions.
The Open House will be part two of a two-part public process.
Earlier this year, input was collected in the form of an online survey in which participants were asked what features they would like to see in the park.
All information collected during the process will be used to help make the final decision.
This will then be presented to city council.
Reid says that if a proposal is approved, construction is expected to take place in the summer of 2020.
