The Belleville Police Service responded to 80 calls for service between November 27, 2019 at 5:00 a.m. and November 28, 2019 at 5:00 a.m.
Domestic Assault
On November 27, 2019 at 7:55 p.m., police arrested a 42-year-old Belleville man as a result of an investigation that started on November 26, 2019. Police had initially attended at a west hill residence in relation to an unwanted person. Once the person had departed the victim disclosed historical events which included domestic assault and sexual assault. As a result of an investigation the following charges were laid:
Sexual assault
Sexual assault causing bodily harm
Overcome resistance by choking
Assault
Intimidation
Criminal harassment
Weapons dangerous
On one occasion the victim sought medical attention for her injuries.
The accused was held for a bail hearing on November 28, 2019. No names will be released.
Amazon Fraud
On November 27, 2019, at 8:50 p.m. police were contacted by victims of an “Amazon” fraud. In this case the caller received an e-mail from Amazon advising that his package was on its way to him. A customer service number was provided which the caller used. It is believed that this call went overseas, given that the person answering the phone had an accent. After a lengthy discussion the caller agreed to purchase $600 worth of Steam gift cards.
People are reminded to not engage in these types of calls. Simply hang up. Do not purchase gift cards for anyone.
