A new program run by the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health offers free dental care for low-income seniors.
The program was launched by the province in a “phased” approach across Ontario and will expand over the next year.
To be eligible for the program, seniors must be 65 or older, residents of Ontario, and have no other form of dental benefits.
Single applicants must have an annual income of $19,300 or less, while couples must earn $32,300 or less.
Seniors must apply to ensure they meet qualification criteria.
Once approved, clients will be mailed a welcome package and a dental card.
If they have received their card, the senior will be able to book an appointment with Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.
Interested individuals can apply online, print and mail a form, or visit one of the health unit offices.
Additional application information is available at hpePublicHealth.ca/seniorsdental.
Healthy Families Program Manager Shelly Brown says in a statement, “To support the initial launch and application process, HPEPH will be holding application clinics, where seniors can complete the application and medical history forms. The first clinics will be held on December 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Belleville office, 179 North Park Street, and December 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Quinte West office, 499 Dundas Street West.
