Belleville Fire Department personnel are crediting a working carbon monoxide detector and alarm for saving at least one life.
Just before 8 o’clock last night (Monday) the alarm sounded in an apartment in a building on Station Street.
Firefighters from the nearby headquarters responded and found dangerous levels of gas were spreading in the building because of a faulty gas furnace.
All the apartments were evacuated and the small building was ventilated.
An Enbridge Gas technician confirmed the gas levels in the building were extremely dangerous.
The gas furnace will be replaced and a female was taken to hospital for observation.
