The Ministry of Oceans and Fishers has green-lighted a waste water pipe, which will lay along the floor of the Trent River.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says they will lay new piping, and they have already built new piping stations, to take waste water from the west end, to the treatment plant near Centennial Park.
The various permit approvals for the pipeline came back in 2013, but the ministry wanted the permits recirculated
Harrison adds that the ministry also admitted there were errors in their examination of their request.
They now await approval from Transport Canada, but the mayor says he is hopeful that now that one federal ministry has approved, the other will fall in line.
The entire waste water project will cost about $17 million.
