If Belleville council approves, the city will have a new location to help the homeless keep warm on cold nights this winter.
Pastor Richard Smith and the Board of Deacons at Victoria Avenue Baptist Church have enthusiastically offered some space to the city for an overnight warming centre.
The city would be responsible for security and janitorial services.
On Tuesday, city council will decide whether to approve the location and whether to set aside $25,000 from a casino reserve as a budget for the centre.
Last winter a warming centre was set up in the foyer of the public library but it wasn’t seen as a suitable facility.
