Boldrick’s Bridge on Shannon Road in Tyendinaga Township has been deemed unsafe and is being closed to traffic until further notice.
Township staff say a review of the bridge’s structural integrity was done in 2018, with a three-tonne weight restriction put in place, but an ongoing environmental review from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans delayed the repair project and it couldn’t be completed within the 2019 construction calendar.
The closure announcement comes after a more recent study by Jewell Engineering, ahead of the winter season, which found that the bridge has deteriorated to a point that it is no longer safe and the bridge has to be closed until further notice.
The township says it is working with provincial and federal government officials to find a solution to the issue and is apologizing for the incovenience.
Council will be holding a Special Meeting of Council Thursday afternoon at 2pm to discuss the closing of Boldrick’s Bridge.
