Stirling-Rawdon council will investigate the feasibility of taking over ownership of the abandoned rail trail running east/west in the municipality.
The provincial government is putting the trail up for sale to anyone, but mayor of Stirling-Rawdon Bob Mullin says it would be best for the municipality to own it to keep it in public hands, linking it with the Hastings Heritage Trail which is already owned by Hastings County.
Should the municipality take ownership maintenance responsibilities, some liability would be taken by the Eastern Ontario Trails Alliance.
Many, if not all, municipalities have taken ownership of the trail from the province.
