UPDATE @ 4:35 P.M. Tuesday:
City Staff in Quinte West say it will likely be about three weeks before Trenton Street is fully reopened, after a dump truck hit a train overpass on Monday afternoon.
The crash caused the dump truck’s bucket to come off and damaged the bridge, with CN Rail workers beginning the repair job on Monday.
In a statement on Tuesday, City Staff say, due to a risk of falling debris, Trenton Street will be closed until further notice, but is expected to be open with lane restrictions in place by the end of the week.
However, it could take up to three weeks for the road to be fully opened again, with no restrictions.
It seems the City of Quinte West is cursed with bad luck when it comes to large trucks smashing in to various railroad overpasses.
Yesterday afternoon a dump truck, with its box lifted, collided with the CN train overpass crossing over Trenton Street just south of the roundabout on the west side of the Trent River.
The overpass sustained enough damage that CN cancelled train traffic over it and chunks of cement fell on the road below.
Trenton Street south of the roundabout in Trenton is completely closed to traffic until further notice.
No one was injured.
