Quinte Conservation has issued a Water Safety Statement for Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte due to forecasts of strong winds and high waves.
According to Environment Canada, high winds reaching up to 50 km are expected throughout the region Thursday evening into Friday. High waves reaching up to 4 metres have also been predicted.
During this period, there is a possibility for localized flooding and shoreline erosion due to wave uprush. Residents are reminded to exercise caution near and around water as banks may be unstable.
Quinte Conservation is issuing a Water Safety Statement regarding the changing conditions in the watershed. A Water Safety Statement indicates that high flows, unsafe banks, high waves or other factors could be dangerous for users such as anglers, boaters, swimmers, children or pets. Localized shoreline flooding is possible.
Staff will continue to monitor conditions and will provide an update if forecasts and conditions change. For current water levels or to report any observations of flooding, residents are encouraged to visit QuinteConservation.ca.
This message will be in effect until (or updated before) November 3, 2019
