Belleville is giving a “development charges” break to an affordable housing project in the downtown area.
At its meeting Monday, city council decided to drop the charges for the All Together Housing development at 111 James Street.
Owner of MAPS Development Corporation, Phil Spry, is partnering with the group to develop the 32-unit affordable housing project.
An earlier request for the deferral was denied because of a clause in an agreement with Quinte Home Builders Association, but the Association asked that the decision be reversed.
The deferral request noted that Spry’s efforts with the city’s current housing crisis, and a staff report, indicated there was enough money in the reserve funds to handle the deferral of the charges.
