There is some good news for the Quebec-based company that is setting up a marijuana research and processing plant in Belleville.
HEXO Corporation has been granted its licences from Health Canada, for the production of various cannabis products at its Belleville Centre of Excellence, as well as the sale of those products at its flagship campus in Gatineau, Quebec.
The Belleville centre, in the old Sears building in the industrial park, will be used for the research and development of cannabis topicals, extracts, edibles and beverages.
HEXO officials say the new licences will expand the scope of work its staff are able to perform in Belleville, along with other research and development hubs in Vaughan and Montreal.
There is still no word on when the company will begin its work in Belleville, but renovations to the former Sears building are well underway.
