The mayor of Brighton is calling a developer’s accusation that he and the rest of the council purposely stalled a process which led to the cancellation of a major project “preposterous”.
A report in Northumberland News says the CEO of Sussex Retirement Living decided to cancel a proposed $30 million retirement residence project planned for the east side of Brighton near No Frills because of unnecessary delays in getting the necessary approvals from the municipality.
The CEO pointed to remarks made by Mayor Brian Ostrander that there were concerns that Brighton couldn’t handle two large retirement residences at this time.
Another one is well on the way to becoming reality on Main Street near the downtown.
Mayor Ostrander said the CEO had simply made a business decision and was looking for someone else to blame, adding the municipality was not stalling anything.
