Foley Bus Lines- Minor Midget
After a close call Sunday evening, the QRD Foley Bus Lines Minor Midgets managed to come out of the weekend with a pair of wins to add to their ETA standings. On Saturday afternoon, the Devils welcomed the always tough Oshawa Generals to the Mackay where the Generals got out to an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal. Fortunately, the home town squad equaled things up a couple minutes later to square off the first at 1-1.
In the second, the Devils got on a roll to the tune of 3 unanswered goals only to follow that up with 3 more in the third before allowing one late to take the contest with a 7-2 final.
Sunday, the Devils hit the road to Lindsay to take on the Central Ontario Wolves in a 6:30pm match up. In a familiar start to Saturday’s game, the Devils gave up a shorthanded goal early to trail 1-0. The QRD’s did manage to tie things up before the buzzer sounded in the first but the stingy Wolves clawed their way to a midway 3-1 lead in the second period. An equipment malfunction in the arena gave the Devil’s an unexpected timeout to shake off the cobwebs as they came out of that break to pot one before the flood, trailing now 3-2. The Devils threw everything they could at the net in the third and despite having a goal called back managed to jam one home with 2:32 remaining to tie things up. With the momentum now swung in favor of the Devils, the team kept pushing and found the twine one last time with a minute left and held on to squeak out the W and the four point weekend.
Next Action…..The Belleville Sens host the Quinte Red Devils organization for the day on October 12th. The Quinte AAA teams play locally before the Sens host a game day experience with a banquet, guest speakers and in game experiences while the Sens take on the Binghamton Devils at 7pm. Free Flow Petroleum- Minor Peewee
A rather quiet weekend for the Free Flow Petroleum Minor Peewees. On Saturday, the team hosted the Whitby Wildcat’s in their lone game of the weekend.
With a great local crowd, there was excitement and enthusiasm on-ice and in the stands. The Minor Peewees commanding the play, opened the scoring halfway through the first period, with the lone goal of the 1st, shot from in tight, by Jack Foley (assisted by Matthew Airhart). The Minor Peewees kept the momentum going, Cooper Kelly, passing to Riley Reid set up Airhart, for a long shot from the point. Giving the home team a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame. The Minor Peewees, were offered no opportunities to relax, being forced to stay on top of their game. Taking advantage of an opportunity, Rykken Ellis rushed from the point carrying the play to Whitby’s end. Ellis (from Foley and Jacob Moore) increased the Minor Peewee’s lead, to 3-0! Not giving up, the Wildcats hit the scoreboard once in the final minutes. Katste Brant, facing a number of shots throughout the game, earned the 3-1 win, in net.
