People involved with the education system in any way are wondering what Monday morning will bring.
Some 55,000 education workers, such as early childhood educators, custodians, and clerical workers say they will go on strike Monday if a contract agreement can’t be reached.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education Stephen Lecce, speaking on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show, said he thought a deal would have been reached a week ago but the union suddenly changed its stance and began job actions.
Lecce says the main sticking point is 13o paid sick days per full-time employee a year which costs the government $35 million per day.
Absent employees are given full pay for 11 of the sick days and 90% of their pay for the remainder.
CUPE and the province return to the bargaining table tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.
