The Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus will be asked to support a bid to get the water levels lowered in the Lake Ontario – St. Lawrence River areas.
Hastings County council has received a report on the call by Quinte area municipalities to have the International Joint Commission lower the water levels in the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River.
Earlier this week, the mayors and wardens agreed that current water levels were about 20 inches higher than last year, causing overwhelming damage to infrastructure, public safety and health.
Following Thursday’s county council meeting, Warden Rick Phillips told Quinte News the high water levels and flooding are affecting 40 municipalities.
Phillips says he and Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson will also get signatures from members of the Eastern Ontario Caucus to back the bid to have the I-J-C cancel what’s called Plan 2014, and return to the lower water levels of 1958.
