When it comes to jobs, most people work for themselves and their families.
But a retired Belleville man decided he’d work all summer and turn all of his after-tax income to worthy charitable organizations.
Paul Reesor, retired from Hydro One, moved to the area two years ago and recently volunteered with the Belleville Salvation Army’s Food Bank, and felt inspired by the dedication of others working to help the less fortunate.
“I just suddenly thought. I’m going to get myself a summer job and donate my pay to groups like the Salvation Army. The work these charities is doing is so important in the community.”
Reesor applied at Lowe’s Home Improvements and worked a lot of hours over the summer in the paint department.
Today, (Wednesday), that selfless labour morphed into the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign’s very first donation.
Reesor, along with Lowe’s Belleville store manager Jason Brooks, dropped a $2,000 cheque into one of the Army’s kettles.
Brooks said Reesor personified the commitment Lowe’s has to the communities it operates in and he hopes he comes back to work next summer.
“You know, when he first told me about what he planned to do, I didn’t really believe him. But he was true to his word!”
Reesor isn’t done donating as he has about $3,000 left and he’ll be parcelling that out to other organizations in the near future.
The Christmas Kettle Campaign launches on November 13.
