A funeral for a proud man of the soil will be held this afternoon (Friday) in Trenton.
Frank Meyers, the man who stubbornly resisted selling his farm to the federal government to make way for a huge expansion of 8 Wing Trenton, died last Sunday at the age of 91.
The government forced an expropriation of his land, however, he had consistently said that neither he nor his family took the money the government offered.
Much of the land still sits unused and there are doubts that it will be developed any time soon.
Meyers farmed the land along Meyers Creek Road that generations of his family had worked before him.
The funeral is set for Weaver Life Centre on Bay Street in Trenton at 1 p.m.
