Belleville Transit keeps getting smarter. Recently supervisors and dispatchers began using a computer aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location system (Consat CAD/AVL).
Put simply, supervisors and dispatchers at transit headquarters know in real time exactly where each bus is and what route it’s running. The system will allow them to know if the bus is early or late and even will show how many people are on the bus at any given time.
The system will automatically make announcements to passengers regarding delays, detours, or closed stops.
And soon, a new app will be unveiled by Belleville Transit. The My BT Bus Real Time next bus app can be installed on smartphones and desktops.
My BT will allow the user to select his or her bus stop and then information on when the next bus will drive by will be displayed.
The app will be officially launched at a media event in the near future.
