The City of Quinte West is releasing a good chunk of cash promised to a group planning to build a natural history museum.
Council had promised $200,000 to the Quinte Museum of Natural History during budget discussions, but said that money wouldn’t be handed over until the group brought back a fundraising plan and a budget.
City Staff received that budget for the upcoming fiscal year, totalling close to $165,000 and council has agreed to release $150,000 of the promised cash.
That money will be used to hire an executive director, rent office space and have an updated feasibility study done.
In total, the group needs to raise $15 million to make the project a reality, with the city committing a combined $4 million in cash and in-kind support.
