The Wellington Dukes remain perfect to start the Ontario Junior Hockey League season but it took a come from behind overtime effort to do it.
Jake Gagnon capped a 2 goal third period comeback with a goal at 4:25 of extra time to lift Wellington over the Toronto Junior Canadiens 5-4.
Dawson Ellis and Dylan Massie scored 2:32 apart in the third period to tie the game at 4. Massie had 2 goals and an assist. Frank Vitucci added a goal and assist.
The Dukes are 4-0. They’re back in Toronto to play the PatriotsWednesday night.
After an opening season loss the Trenton Golden Hawks have roared back with 3 straight wins including 3-1 over Pickering. Griffin Fox scored the winner. Wyatt George scored a goal and assist. The G-Hawks are in Buffalo on Wednesday.
In the Provincial Junior “C” Hockey League Matt Poole scored at 1:05 of overtime to give the Picton Pirates a 2-1 season opening win in Gananoque.
Pirates goaltender Eric Tessier was the difference as Picton was outshot 45-30.
The Pirates home opener is Thursday night when they host Napanee at 7:30.
